Don’t associate coastal SC with wineries? Prepare to be surprised. You can tour local Duplin Winery, the oldest and largest winery in the South. At Carolina Vineyards Winery in North Myrtle Beach, taste traditional South Carolina style wines crafted from local fruits. Coastal Carolina Winery stays busy for good reason–don’t miss their wine shine and wine lighting.
Boating and Fishing
As you’d probably expect, boating and fishing are huge along South Carolina’s coast, and we can’t think of many better retirement activities. Take an ocean tour from one of many local boating services, or plan a day of angling in Murrells Inlet with Outlaw Fishing Charter. All equipment (including saltwater licenses, reels and bait) is included.
Natural Beauty and Exploration
We understand why so many people look to retire in Conway, SC. Besides the great climate and access to the coast, there’s such an abundance of natural beauty just about everywhere you look. We suggest the Conway Riverwalk, as well as Thompson Farm and Nursery, and Waccamaw River Park as must-see outdoor attractions. For equestrians, a day spent at Tranquility Horse Farm should be on your list!
Outlets, Boutiques & Unique Shops
Whether you want to make a huge haul at Tanger Outlets or get nostalgic at Papa’s General Store, Conway and Myrtle Beach have you covered. Feel like antiquing? Take a friend and head to Southern Pickers Antiques or Carolina Marketplace Antique Mall for a whole day of treasure hunting.
Sporting Events
When you retire to Conway, you’re within pitching distance of Coastal Carolina College Sports! Take in a baseball game, plan a day of tailgating with the Chanticleers, or enjoy a day at the ballpark with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, an affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. If golf is more your speed, you’ll find a number of amateur tournaments in the area. North Myrtle Beach is also home to shag dancing, and a number of competitions are held year-round.
