4 Fun Exercise Ideas for Active Seniors in the Myrtle Beach Area

by | Jan 8, 2024 | Blog, Prime Carolina Coast

If you’re an active senior, then you already know that regular physical activity is one of the foundations for aging well. Not only are there health benefits to exercising, you can also enjoy social benefits if you participate in group activities.

Having easy access to healthy activities plus great people to enjoy them with is just one of the benefits of making an independent senior living community your home. Here are four ways for older adults to stay active while living at Prime Carolina Coast.

1. Golf Time

According to Healthline, playing golf can help prevent a variety of issues, including cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes. Head out to Prime’s 18-hole putting green to soak up some sun and catch up with friends. If you’re up for a challenge, check out one of the local courses like Wild Wing Golf Course just down the road from Prime or King’s North, a Myrtle Beach National course.

2. Long Walks on the Beach…

Moderate walks are good for everyone, but they are especially beneficial for older adults. In addition to toning your muscles and boosting your energy levels, walking can help strengthen your bones, which lowers your chances of developing osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. What’s more, regular walks can improve your balance, making falls less likely to occur.

Oceanside strolls are just a modest drive away thanks to Prime’s location approximately 15 miles from Myrtle Beach. If you want to stick closer to home, check out our aquatic treadmill on site or head into downtown Conway for a stroll along the gorgeous riverwalk.

3. Pickleball Pursuits

Have you heard about pickleball? It’s a fun sport best described as a cross between tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. You can check it out at Prime, where we have our own court so you can easily meet up for a game with friends. MUSC Health recommends Pickleball as a great light aerobic workout that can prevent hypertension, strokes, and heart attacks. It’s also a fun way to get to know your neighbors!

4. Happy Pooch, Healthy Owner

Dog ownership provides a multitude of benefits, including lower stress levels, increased mental stimulation, and fewer reported feelings of loneliness. And, just like humans, dogs need physical activity to stay healthy. Take your four-legged friend to Prime’s on-site bark park for a fun game of fetch or tug-of-war.
